Farrell Flat
Farrell Flat is on the old copper trail to the south west of Burra, and was once a stopover point for bullock and mule teams transporting copper ore from Burra to Port Wakefield. At that time there was enough work for three resident blacksmiths ! In 1880 the railway connected Farrell Flat to Burra in the north and Riverton in the South.
The towns unique history can be discovered at an award winning, interpretive centre, located in the main street community gardens.
Farrell Flat is home to one of the regions two airstrips, catering for light aircraft. A peaceful rural town, boasting a beautiful patch work of colour, just before harvest each year.
Access to Farrell Flat from Burra
Farrell Flat is only 20 minutes from Burra. Visitors should take the Barrier Highway south from Burra, turning off at the Clare Road, and then left into the township. |
