Hallett

Hallett was settled in 1842 by John and Alfred Hallett on a pastoral run called “Willogoleche”. The main streets of Hallett take the names of the brothers and the side streets the names of their children.

Hallett was the birth place of the most famous explorer and aviator of the northern polar area, Sir Hubert Wilkins. His cottage has been lovingly restored to it’s former glory and can be visited at Mt Bryan East. To visit the homestead a key may be collected from, and returned to the following places:

Hallett Store,                         Mon to Fri 8 am to 6 pm

Sat and Sun 9 am to 12 noon

            Hallett Hotel                           During pub hours

Olde School Gallery  Hallett Phone 08 8894 2284

Mt Bryan Hotel                       Mon to Sat from 11 am

                                                            Sun from 12 noon

The Dares Hill Circuit ( starts or finishes ) at Hallett, circling out east ( to or from ) Terowie. The trail is well worth taking, and is easily accessed by two wheel drives during fine weather. You will experience gorges and stony creek beds, ruins of abandoned homesteads and outbuildings, an early shearing shed and lightly wooded dry pastures, along with much more.

Access to Hallett from Burra

Hallett is only 20 minutes from Burra. Visitors simply take the Barrier Highway north of Burra, which runs through Mt Bryan to Hallett.
