MUSEUMS

Burra has four fascinating museums, which can be visited separately or as part of a Museum Pass. Passes are available from the Burra Visitor Centre or from any of the museums.

You are entitled to keep the Museum Pass for as long as it takes to visit each museum, even on your next trip to Burra.

    

MALOWEN LOWARTH MUSEUM

Daily Tour at 9.30 am

Allow 45 minutes

 

Hear about life in Paxton Square (circa 1860s)

Malowen Lowarth (Cornish for ‘Hollyhock Garden’) includes:

·      Parlour, kitchen and bedroom

·      One of the four oldest quilts in Australia

·      A cottage garden

  

MORPHETTS ENGINEHOUSE MUSEUM

Daily Tours

11am – 1pm

Allow 60 minutes

 

Visit Morphett’s Enginehouse (circa 1858) at the Burra Monster Mine site to see:

·      A working model of the pump engine

·      Panoramic views of historic mine site

 

 

MARKET SQUARE MUSEUM

 

Shop open daily

10am to 12 noon

 

Daily Tour at 10.30 am

Allow 30 minutes

 

Old fashioned sweets, homemade goods and handicrafts are on sale.

You can also see the recreation of an old style General Store and shopkeeper’s residence (circa 1885).

 

 

BON ACCORD MINING MUSEUM

Daily Tours

2pm – 4pm

Allow 45 minutes

 

The Museum houses an exciting mining display.

Visitors are guided around the:

·      Monster Mine diorama

·      Blacksmith’s shop

·      Pumpshed and Shaft that supplied the town’s water from 1884 - 1966
