MUSEUMS

Burra has three fascinating museums, which are included free with your Burra Passport, or can be visited separately. When purchased with a Burra Passport the Museum pass is valid for 12 months.     

  

MORPHETTS ENGINEHOUSE MUSEUM

 

Open

Daily 10 am – 12.30 pm

Allow 60 minutes

 

Located at the Burra Monster Mine, Morphetts Enginehouse

was built in 1858 but was later gutted by fire in 1925.

It was restored to its former glory as a Jubilee 150 project in 1986.

Includes entry to the miner’s adit and balcony lookout of the Mine Site

 

 

MARKET SQUARE MUSEUM

 

Lolly Shop

Open 3.30 pm to 5 pm daily

Allow 30 minutes

Daily, except Tues & Wed

 

Old fashioned sweets, homemade goods and handicrafts are on sale.

You can also see the recreation of an old style General Store

and shopkeeper’s residence (circa 1885).

 

 

BON ACCORD MINING MUSEUM

Open

1 pm to 3 pm

Allow 45 minutes

 

The Museum houses an exciting mining display.

Visitors are guided around the:

·      Monster Mine diorama

·      Blacksmith’s shop

·      Pumpshed and Shaft that supplied the town’s water from 1884 - 1966
